Another title that I'm always looking for at library sales is:
MR. WICKER'S WINDOW by Carley Dawson. Illustrated by Lynd Ward. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1952.
This was a very well written time-slip fantasy as were the sequels THE SIGN of THE SEVEN SEAS and DRAGON RUN. All three were well written, very collectible, and well worth picking up even as a library discard.

I read Mr. Wicker's Window and the sequels over and over again. I wish I could share them with my children. Maybe they will be republished someday.
I like the magic, but also, I like how Audubon is worked into the story. I'm glad you say they were well written. I also remember them as well written but I was in elementary school when I read them.
I also loved Mr. Wicker's Window as a child...and finally gave in and ordered a copy from one of the Internet out-of-print/used book services...the copy that arrived was worn but still readible...from an upstate public library....I will share it with my grandchild.....it was the first time I ever heard the word "pickaninny," which in today's mindset is so politically incorrect that I doubt the book will ever be republished....
