The following are the ones read to them and read on their own, again in no particular order:
- Watty Piper The Little Engine That Could
(daughter, over & over & over again!)
- M. Sendak Where the Wild Things Are
(both, but son more the daughter)
- E.B. White Charlotte's Web (Trophy Newbery)
(daughter, also on my list of childhood favorites)
- Dr. SEUSS How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
(I've still got this one memorized!)
- Louis Sachar Holes (Yearling Newbery)
(both loved)
- J.K. Rowling Harry Potter Paperback Box Set (Books 1-6)
(both)
- F.H. Burnett The Secret Garden (The Illus Children's Library)
(both, this one is a surprise, the dialect in the original edition makes this a tough read aloud for an American!)
It will be interesting to see what books the current and next generation of children will remember as significant from their childhood.
Alex liked Yertle the Turtle...over and over
